It appears that those who are liberal in their political views would want to change almost everything in government. Our country has been greater, more peaceful, and more bountiful in the past. Does it not make sense that we should try to conserve much of what this country was founded on/for? A conservative government should be one that allows peace and safety to reign in our country and let everyone liberally do as they please. Too often liberals want government to get involved in things like healthcare and retirement only to find out that even more of their own freedom is being taken away. I will conclude that though I don't agree with much of what liberals stand for in government, I do not see this country divided as our media likes it to appear. We can and must co-exist to show others what freedom is. Freedom is not allowing the government to get involved in too many aspects of its' peoples lives. Respect one another--even idiotic conservatives--it will become contagious!.

So called liberals and conservative have extremely differing ideologies as to how the government should govern us. As a result, each tries to demean and demonize the other. I believe liberals, by the nature of their philosophy are more apt to do so.
Conservatives believe less central government is needed and that the Constitution implies states should have more power to govern themselves. Conservatives want all people to be treated equally and, more or less, fend for themselves. This results in some people being rich and some people being poor.
Liberals want a more powerful federal government controlling many aspects of people's lives in an effort to ensure equality for all. This results in everybody being the same, thus hard work is punished and laziness is rewarded.
Since liberals believe they know how people should live and they should control what we do, they find those who disagree to be ignorant and uninformed, thus they deride such people.

Unless of course you are talking about them there gays. In that case the states shouldn't have the right to allow gay marriage. Conservatives want all people to be treated equally as long as they are not too different of course.And poor children with no insurance? It's darwanism baby, let em die!!

Conservatives sure don't mind a powerful federal government when it comes to pushing religion (their own of course), invading the bedrooms of those they deem sinful. Not to mention telling adults they can't spoke marijuana yet bending over backwards for the tobacco and alchohol industries.

Conservative used to mean exactly what it sounds like. But every since Reagan(maybe even a little before, say Nixon) religious zealots have taken on the mantel of conservatism. and they have run with it. Much to the disgust of old fashioned conservatives, moderates, and of course liberals. In my mind anymore "conservative" means the systematic dismantling of Roosevelt's new deal and everything that has come along with it good or bad. There is nothing or no low they will stop to legislate their world view on everybody. The short answer is Conservative=thinly vealed racism, sexism, uneducated, fear mongering, greed. Funny I thought conservatives say they want small government then go about trying to legislate their view of exactly by law what can happen in the bedrooms of America.

I dont know why you feel conservatives allow peace and safety to reign. They most often try to foist their views on others where liberals are more likely to let others express their ideas and opinions. Progress takes those with liberal and creative thinking. Liberals are confortable in a diverse society and are more willing to accept others who are differnt from them. This is what peace and freedom is made of. This is how our founding fathers envisioned this country.

I agree with your philosophy, and the word "conservative" is often not considered politically correct. In my opinion, this is because we're a youth-oriented culture and each approaching generation naturally wants something new and different. Forget what's tried and true; go with what's hip and happening--so long as it's not what older generations value.
I've found, though, that once each generations mature, they long for the "old ways," but by then a younger generation has taken over and they are always more vocal so they get the attention they're after.

conservative is not a dirty word, it is the wait and see attitude, which a lot of people can't do.
Some people are in too much of a hurry trying to solve problems without looking at the big picture..... yes, I would agree that we are liberal in our choices , yet conservative in our approach. I feel safe with that, I don't want to jump off a cliff if I don't have to, yet I look forward to progress, just others do.....I do not want to be left behind, but I also do not want to be a target of another nation for acting too quickly....

Your premise is good but practice is flawed... We should vote out the two major parties until they understand "We the People". The political fight starts by both sides being political and not working for the people... Has nothing to do with left, right, conservative or liberal.

The reason your country has gone to hell in a handbasket is because there are more ethnic groups, minorities, and divergent opinions now than ever before. Also, the population is huger than ever before. Every minority group is trying to get a leg up to usurp the ruling class.
That is why there are so many conflicts.
Conservative? What does that even mean anymore? You mean CHRISTIAN conservative? What about Muslim conservative? What degree of conservation, should we adhere to?
If it weren't for liberals, your a.s.s wouldn't have the freedom to come on Yahoo Answers and post opinions like this. Suck it.
