Encourage kids to do better in school. Have mentor programs that emphases hard work. Stop glamorizing criminals in the entrainment industry. Make it easier to get student loans for college. Teach personal finance and economic classes in high school and make them mandatory. Penalize parents if their kids skip school.

The answer is education. Our kids have no marketable job skills. Only the wealthy can afford to get their kids the specialized education they need to become successful. So the rich get richer, the poor stay poor and the middle class is disappearing because there are no good paying jobs for unskilled labor. However there are still good paying jobs available for moderately skilled labor. If we would start preparing our children to enter the workforce while they are in high school, we could rebuild the middle class in this country. It is as simple as offering trade school degrees for free to high school students. Teach your kids to be mechanics, plumbers, pipefitters, lab techs, paralegals, medical assistants, whatever. All those Jobs you can get with a six-month tech school degree, give them the degree they need to get a job they can live on. And You don't give them all the same skills. You make them pick a major and you limit availability to what the market will sustain. They do not have to do that job the rest of their life, but at the very least, when they graduate highschool, whether they go to college or not they will have the skills to make a good living wage. That will reduce the number of people living in poverty. It is not a matter of redistributing wealth. It is a matter of giving people the right set of skills they need to make a good living.

The problem is that once an individual crosses a certain threshold of wealth, and retains the ambition of getting wealthier, their money begins to buy influence to get the hurdles out of the way that slow down you or me. In other words, they begin to use their money to cheat to get richer.

When the poor of a society allow such a thing to go on long enough, eventually so much wealth and power gets hoarded into the hands of so few, that invariably those very few begin to think the world belongs to them, and they can do what they want with it, because they have gotten away with it so far.

The trickling doesn't work.
For example:

A rich somebody goes to buy a pair of shoes. What pair of shoes does he/she go get? An expensive pair from some extravagent shoe seller. That shoe seller is rich, and buys other high priced items from other rich people. No trickling there.

A poor somebody goes to buy a pair of shoes. What pair of shoes does he/she go get? A (relatively) cheaper pair from a rich coorporation. That coorporation's CEO goes and buys high priced items from rich people. There's the trickling.

So all in all, it trickles upward. That's called Capillary action.

Trickle down is what caused it.... and now the only real way to alter this trend is to convince (or set up policies that make it more profitable) big business (and therefor their owners) to reinvest in America and move jobs back to the homeland.

Those who work hard and are successful will always earn more. Those who don't, won't, hence the gap.

No, it wasn't.

Trickle down simple means the wealthy do better ONLY when those less wealthy do better economically. They will always do better than those who are less wealthy.
