I've heard people say that being a cynic means that you're usually a person who analyzes and thinks. That you're a person of caution. But my question is, when does being a cynic mean you're a educated, smart-aware person? Or a foolish arrogant, hard-headed know it all? How do you find that line? I'm a cynic myself and often wonder when I do cross that line. How much do I really know? And I'm not cynical because I hate people! complete opposite.

How do you know?

Thoughts?

A foolish, arrogant hard headed, smart aware person is not a cynic. They're mostly just arrogant,

To be cynical person requires a certain amount of ability to see the other side of most issues.

Without cynicism we would lose the ability to think for ourselves.

Neither.

There are multiple sides to just about everything. Which side you emphasize more will make you optimist, pessamist, cynic, etc. A balanced person will make it possible to consider all facts and decide on its overall merit.

A foolish/stupid person will consider none of it.

I feel, education doesn't have much part in this. Being able to think on their own and maintain balanced view is developed much early on. By the time school comes around, you can only develop what's already established. You could know a lot about something or not much about something, but you still need to look at all of what you know to decide what's good and not good for you, from your own prospective.

em well I think cynicism is based on our knowledge and experiences and it can be good sometimes coz you know the outcome of some situations but i think being to cynical can dry up you imagination and make you overgeneralise and get stook in the past, . But the world wakes us all up eventually.

It's a fine line. As you grow older, you mellow out more, but I can see when I was younger it was a power and dominance trip.
