It seems to me that men have to invest more in a relationship to make it work. That means they should be more careful.

Yes, only because a man's heart is less likely to be given to someone. As weird as it sounds, I look at it like a math equaltion: If a woman gives her heart out in 9/10 relationships, it is out there 90% of the time. Men give their hearts out in 2/10 relationships, so their's is out there 20% of the time. (OR WHATEVER %S YOU WANT BUT WOMEN MORE THAN MEN) Since it is out there less often, the rarity makes it more fragile.

I believe a man is more affected by a break up than a woman. Every and any man that I have ever known had more trouble going on with life after a break up than any woman I have ever know. My own personal experiences prove that: My ex husband never moved on after our divorce (and I positively hate that for him) and my husband now tells me he could never live without me and I truly believe he means that. He gets very emotional when he says it. I have that same passion for him, but I could and would go on if he were to leave. I think women are just the stronger breed, not physically but mentally.

I don't believe either sex has the monopoly on fragile hearts. It is the person who feels pain depending on their past experiences. Sometimes those hurt and so scared of being hurt again they find difficulty in giving freely.

Or is it just that woman have conditioned themselves for hurt because for so long men where the prominent ones cheating in the relationship? Lets face it we all need to condition ourselves for the worse and hope for the best in any relationship.

I do not think that either sex wants to have their heart broken again.
I know that my heart is still hurting and is hard to trust another woman.
Would really like to find another woman that I could trust. But wouldn't we all like to find a partner that we can trust.

it works both ways. if you've been hurt before, your heart tends to be more fragile the second time round, and even more so as you go on.
