Beatchanter is correct!

The waste is the biggest problem.

However, consider this.

France is approaching 90% Nuclear and is able to stand safely by while the rest of the world fights over oil.

If they can figure a way to do it, we certainly can.

If France were a state, they would come in around 47th place for GDP and a few other categories. They don't even beat Delaware. Soooo what are we waiting for?

We could get it done in less than half the time it took them if we can get past irrational environmentalists who make their case using pop-science and emotional rants.

The biggest threat is storage of the nuclear waste... right now in America most of the waste is actually stored on site.. and not in the best of ways... and when we do build storage facilities... it's usually deep holes that have a clay bed that (if it has no cracks and is not disturbed) will prevent any leaks from getting into the ground water... the whole idea is sketchy to me though... because the Earth isn't a constant at rest... it's moving.. and as such it's just a matter of time till one of those "storage pits" has a problem... if you don't believe that look at land fills.. they work off of the same clay principle.. and though it normally does work well they do occasionally spring leaks.

It would only take one significant leak to screw up a LOT of ground water for many lifetimes.

Fortunately they are finding ways to make our reactors more efficient.. but still.. they do produce waste.... you could always say lets just fling it all into space.... .... but can you imagine if one of the shuttles blew up again o.O... that would be a mess in our atmosphere :(... If they ever finish this space elevator they keep talking about building near Ecuador that would be a great option.... so in 40 years we can use that.... but what to do with the waste till then?

first of all North Korea has no solid way of turning in a nuclear attack. Secondly the north has already threatened nuclear war against the south and finally It does not take guts to launch a prevalent strike the coronary heart and brains are waiting till there is an attack and then astounding returned with complete rigidity. we've been threatened a hundred's of situations yet purely led to war some situations fairly. in the journey that your somewhat frightened approximately north korea think of returned to the iraq a million they had the 4th best military in the international and we beat them in 2 months, North Korea is plenty down the record on its armies means.

Nuclear power creates Nuclear Waste as a bi-product. Nuclear waste must be maintained and watched for thousands of years. Are you certain our government is going to be strong enough to guard this waste for the time it will take to reach it's half-life?
