Death
To dream about the death of a loved one, suggests that you are lacking a certain aspect or quality that the loved one embodies. Ask yourself what makes this person special or what do you like about him. It is that very quality that you are lacking in your own relationship or circumstances. Alternatively, it indicates that whatever that person represents has no part in your own life.

Lots of things. Just like birth or a pregnancy dream can mean a lot of different things.
In general, death does mean change. It can be a manifestation of your fears. For example, if you know someone who is doing something dangerous and you fear for their life, that dream would show that fear. It really depends on who the person is, your relationship to them, how they died, how you feel about the death, etc. Dreams are very personal. This is kind of why I hate dream books. lol Another meaning could be a part of you dying and getting ready for the new. That might be a little confusing. They say that our friends are a reflection of ourselves. So when they die in a dream, that part of us that we see in them is dying and changing.
Some won't agree with this, but that's never stopped me before. lol Sometimes a death is a memory of something that happened in a past life. Not all dreams are the same for everyone. It all depends on you. A closed space can mean comfort for one person while is can mean claustrophobia for another. Restrictions and limits. Write down how it made you feel and go from there.

Dreams can be very complicated in terms of translating them. The basic fact of a death may derive from many possible things. It could be a forecast, could mean they are no longer who you thought, a fear of losing them, or a multitude of other possibilities where the death may signify something completely void of the individual whom died. In order to understand the dream, you would have to examine it in its entirety along with each detail. The general mood of the dream can also have an impact, such as a dark dream or brighter dream.

Agree with other answer, it is meant to mean a birth, however it could be precognative sight of a future death....the old saying is when someone dies it allows another spirit to be born.

usually death=change
Has your relationship to this person changed recently? Are you, or this other person going through a big life change?
If none of these apply, your mind may just be putting random images together. It happens a lot in dreams.

it could mean a death wish. If you were so sad in your dream, it is mostly so. a death wish is not really that you wish to kill them; it is just an unconscious expression of annoyance toward them interpreted into this. This annoyance coul dbe due to silly reasons..

when you dream that someone died means that you've "extended" that person's life.
That's what it means in my country
