Choosing this time in our history to censure Turkey over the Armenian genocide that happened in 1915 during WWI RIGHT NOW seems like a trivial event UNTIL you consider this....The Lib cowards in Congress don't have the cajones to just say, "OK let's not fund the Iraq war,"...which they CAN do. But they know that the vast majority of Americans will kick them out of office.
So instead, they dredge up this old controversy and choose NOW to P/O Turkey. 70% of our supplies for the war go through Turkey. Our water supply goes through Turkey. Turkey has already been irritable over the activity of the Kurds on their border with Iraq. Why would any SANE politician want to put our already shaky relationship with Turkey at risk RIGHT NOW, unless their sole purpose was to purposefully want them to break off relationships with us and thus compromise our position in Iraq.
What COWARDS!!

Ritchwil and Henry VIII...I'm glad I'm not the only one terribly troubled by this. The whole censuring issue is getting practically no media play whatsoever and the implications are huge. Even if the resolution doesn't go through, the Turks are a "stiff-necked" group (I lived there for awhile) and they won't forget this insult.

Henry VIII...I do disagree with you on one point though. The ONLY reason any sane Congressman would submit a resolution like this RIGHT NOW would be to subvert the war. Whether you agree with the war or not...you either support it or END it. You don't try to slowly starve your troops by cutting off their supply route.

Sorry, Tribeca...You underestimate the Turks' ego. They do not take insults lightly. France PASSED a similar resolution and Turkey placed all sorts of restrictions on them in retaliation.

I asked a similar question last night and all I got was liberal apologists. Did it happen? Absolutely! Was it a tragedy? Yes! Should those who died be remembered and honored? Yes! But that genocide had absolutely nothing to do with the current incarnation of a free and democratic Turkey. THAT was the Ottoman Empire. So what the heck has this congress accomplished by passing a resolution designed, it seems, specifically to tick off one of our closest allies and indirectly blame them for the genocide. It serves absolutely no purpose and accomplishes absolutely nothing.
Are they busing Nancy and the Nancy Boys in each morning from the special school or what? It's boggles the mind. It really does. Of all the constructive things they could be doing...

It is unfortunate that the truth causes such diplomatic controversy. Turkey has been itching to go after the terrorists from the Kurdish areas and this resolution provides them with an excuse.
This action by Congress is hardly cowardly. On the contrary, it is quite courageous but the timing is not good. On the other hand, the timing will never be right because our involvement in Iraq is planned to be longterm.
Also, the US is one of Turkey's major trading partners, so despite their outrage Turkey will be reluctant to cut ties.

I disagree that it is cowardice however I did write my reps and express my opinion to them on this issue. The genocide against Armenians happened 92 years ago when the Ottomans were governing Turkey. The government is different today. It is like blaming America for something one of the governors of one of the 13 British colonies in North America did. Different time different government it doesn't apply. Turkey has been one of our greatest allies and to make waves with them over something as trivial as this seems a bit too much.

IT happened 90 yrs ago. In my opinion it was probably a genocide but it may have been as Turkey has said. Regardless, passing a meaningless feel good measure that pi$$es off our key ally is insanity and proves why the democrats should NOT be incharge of the pastry shelf at the 7-11 let alone congress- you have to wonder if they are doing it intentionally to undermine the war effort; they are that irrational

If Israel gets attacked by its neighbours it most likely will be because it precipitated it. I think if those countries in the middle east start a war the rest of us should stay out of it. I think both sides over there are at fault

It is another way they can try to end the War in Iraq. If Turkey ends its support it will just be that much harder to continue the war. So what if it ends up costing a lot of soldiers lives.

Political posturing. Like asking someone if they have stopped beating their wife.
As soon as they are done using it to make the Republicans look bad they will back off.
They are assuming Hillary will win the White House and she will need Turkey more than Bush does to help promote her one world government agenda as per her membership in the World Federalist Association.
She will need Turkey to join the EU as an important step.

The government of Turkey are a bunch of complete idiots. It was a genocide, and it happened ninety years ago. They should just admit it and move on. Otherwise they can go hang out with Iran and reject conclusively proven genocides together.
I guess the line in Midnight Express is true: "For a nation of pigs, it's funny that you don't eat them!".

That's why we need to get rid of all of them!!! Vote "No incumbents" that's been my policy for years, Dems or Reps makes no difference, they are all the same, can't tell them apart anymore. They get the job by making promises they don't keep, except those made to big business for campaign money.
