I mean think about it. Many(not all) Human beings seem to like doing things that they know are wrong & have to pay severe consequences if they are caught but yet do it anyway. Like murder. Rape. Hating each other b/c of race color nationality religion instead of realizing we should all work together to make this planet a peaceful place. Acting as if war & killing innocent civillians is the only answer to problems. Trying to hurt & kill others over something as petty as a sporting event. Making bombs for the purpose of destroying the very planet we live in. Cheating on others to make a buck. I have seen cats dogs & other animals treat their children better than the way some human beings treat their children. Does this sound like human beings are smart? Not to me it doesn't. I'll probably be called a liberal or even worse for ths question but that's how i feel. Have a good one everybody.

Wow!! You really hit a lot of nerves with this one!! I totally agree with u on this one. There is something seriously wrong with the way people are these days. There are a lot of good people out there but ya sure have to go thru a lot of BS to find them. No matter where u go, u run into them. I go to Nascar Races & that's a real fun place to get singled out if u happen to be a country folk as opposed to a city person. We get called red necks, hay seeds & others that I won't bother to mention cause I will not put myself on their mentality level. It doesn't matter, any sports event u run into them. Right after 911, people came together & that was great. Horrible part is, look what it took to make us come together!! Too bad it didn't last very long. I grew up in the late 60's. Now that was a great time to live except for the war. Things were all about peace, love & end the war. Yes , I was young then, but I remember. That spirit lasted thru the 70's & part of the 80's then I don't know what happened. It sure took a sh!t!! No the human race is not the smartest species on earth. My vote goes to the animals. They give ya undying love, don't ask for much, they don't carry weapons. This is the reason i'd love to move way out in the country & stay away from this "all about me" world we live in now. I'm the type of person who would help out a total stranger or give ya the shirt off my back if ya needed it. I wish we could all just get along! I'm getting off my soap box now. Peace to all!!

Well, this isn't a question, it's a rant, and what's more, it's a liberal rant. So the BAD NEWS is you probably are a LIBERAL. I will not however, call you anything worse, because A) I'm a nice guy & B) I really can't think of anything worse. ;-)

Now the GOOD NEWS is you don't have to keep that horrid grey cynical self depreciating liberal paradigm BECAUSE you are in fact a member of the SMARTEST species on the planet. The reason Liberals don’t think we're the best thinkers is because Liberals don't think much. Liberals FEEL. Liberals FEEL guilty about failure. They FEEL guilty about success. They FEEL you have no FEELINGS if you don't FEEL the way they FEEL you should FEEL. Feelings are important, but what sets humans apart, is our capacity to THINK. Which means we can evaluate our feelings to see if they are reasonable.

So, let's take Murder, Rape and Racism. Have you ever noticed that wolves of different breeds don't run in the same pack? If fact if you took a wolf and put it in a pack of a different breed they would most likely kill it in short order. Unless it was a female in heat, in which case there would probably be a gang bang before the death & dismemberment.

Which means wolves, as a rule are Murdering Racist Rapists. Humans on the other hand frequently pass laws to restrict this sort of behavior.

Should we all be working together to make this a peaceful planet? Name one creature that's trying to do that? Most the top predators, which is where I place humans, are very opportunistic; they exploit any weakness in their prey or competitors to establish dominance. In the perpetual struggle for territory, humans are the only animal that concerns it's self with how the struggle may be affecting enemy non combatants.

There's not a single item on this rant list that humans don't shine in given an honest thoughtful comparison.

Nobody makes bombs to destroy the earth. They have always been to acquire territory or stop aggression. We just made them so big they started to have ecological consequence. That said though, have you even noticed that there have been only 2 nuke attacks, against a single enemy, in a single war over 60 years ago?

Think sporting violence is bad? 200 years ago my ancestors were engaged in perpetual clan warfare. Trust me; the fact that we get most of our natural aggression out by yelling at a game is a real step up.

And don't even start with "Animals treat their kids better". Most humans support their kids for 20 years or more, and I've never seen a human mother eat the small twin.

Take heart, have hope. As a species we're doing good.
One day human intelligence may be so great, that Liberalism will be impossible. ;-)

Bet there are lots of studies that could prove it to a limited degree. Besides animals can be cold and cruel.

Watched these two squirrels fighting for territory one day. They pushed each other out of the top of a fifty foot tree. One managed to grab a branch on the way down. The other…. Well in years to come there was this big squirrel with a distinct limp.

Fish are even worse we eat our own kids.

Good question... and I do totally agree with your view... we are certainly not smart.

Being intelligent is not the same as being smart... I believe smartness comes from farsightedness and quality orientation... our increasing obsession with quantity and the present tense is perhaps making us less and less smart day by day. I sincerely believe that had we been smart enough, we would have today more happiness than wealth and more assurance than risk... intelligence gives us the technology, but to use it appropriately for our real lasting advantage, we need smartness. We know a lot of things but do not know how best to use this knowledge... meaning we have quantity of knowledge but no quality knowledge.

I don't know if we are the only species that does that, but I have never had it happen to me. And I never went home again either. I do have a 12 year old at home yet, we will see.

How many dolphins have you seen stuck in 'traffic' on the way to 'work' ?

How many birds have you seen lining up for social security ?

How many Orang Utangs ( cheers Uncle Wayne ) have you seen being drafted ?

How many ants have you seen being laid off work ?

No, just because we have these 'Big Brains' fitted, and by the way, they are not the biggest by any means, doesn't make us 'smart'.

In fact, if I can overcome my own embarrassment and admit this, throughout this manifestation every really dumb thing I have ever done has been a consequence of me having this big fat lump of grey matter between my ears !

Good question, let's hope it jogs some big brains into reviewing some of our 'smartness' ! ;-)))
