This is a political prize anymore. You have to remember that Yassar Arafat won a nobel peace prize. Last time I looked, he was responsible for murder of innocent civilians and children. How is a murderer capable of promoting peace?
There are at least 14 scientific arguments against Al Gore's movie disproving facts he portrayed in the movie. So come on, this is a political prize awarded by a bunch of people who believe in Global Warming and liked Al Gore's movie and political activism.
What they overlook is that Al Gore is a hypocryte because he does not practice what he preaches. He preaches that the sky is falling, but I will fly in private planes, build huge houses, and consume all of these natural resources. "Don't look behind the curtain" is his philosophy. Doesn't he consume 10 times more resources than the average american. So give me a break!

Because the Nobel peace prize tries to award people who do something positive for the benefit of humanity.
Modern day Republicans simply don't qualify. They are too keen on using violence as a first, last and only resort.

I thought that President Saddat of Eygpt was a republican. No, wait a minute, he was a ruthless warmonger and tyrant. Silly me!
Nelson Mandella: top bloke in some ways but you must have doubts about a man whose wife murdered teenagers by putting car tires round their necks and setting fire to them.
Sweden: home of the Nobel prize. A fine country so liberal that never it had a disagreement with Nazi Germany or Soviet Russia.

Because the Committee uses the prize to push its lefty agenda...why did Yasser Arafat win the prize, and why would anyone want it after that?

Good question.
I would say that Kissinger's joint award of the prize is still relevant today.
