Nope. They physically wont fit.
PIII = Slot 1 or Socket 370.
P4 = Socket 423, 478 and LGA775.

U can't. pentium 3 & pentium 4 uses different sockets. so they won't fit & u can break ur pc easily. But if u want to use p3 as p4 or viceversa, just swap the harddrives. But then u have to uninstall & install drivers. No need to reinstall OS.

The answer is NO, unless your motherboard is compatible with both p3 AND p4, and for that it would have to have 2 different sockets for these 2 cpu's.
Now, any idea the speed of that p4? I need a socket 478 p4 for a machine I'm building, and need one at least 2ghz. Get at me later if you know that information, as I'm interested in taking it off your hands, possibly the whole p4 computer.

Not compatible. One wonders, though, what happened to the P4 that is forcing you to use a P3. Might be worth fixing up the P4.

i believe the pin layout under the processors are different, so if thats the case then no.Also you have to make sure the motherboard is compatiable with the pentium 4 processor
