I wouldn't try tampons yet. Take some toilet paper and roll quite a few sheets until you can make a 'pad'. That should hold you for a while. I don't know what time it is where you are. Maybe they will wake up soon.

If its your first period, I would hope that it is pretty light, I am guessing you are quite young, so go with pads. Use tampons when you are a little older. I would try to sneak in to your grandparents bathroom, they may not wake, but if they do, don't panic, your Nan should understand, she's been in your shoes before and with a lot less pleasant 'equipment' shall we say (lol). If this would crush you totally and die of embarrassment, use a whole load of toilet tissue or kitchen paper! We've all had one of these emergencies!
Also for your info (when older) - the risks of using tampons is exceedingly low, use a combination of pads and tampons, depending on your preference. Some prefer to use tampons during the day and pads at night, or pads at the beginning and end of period and tampons in between. Toxic shock syndrome only occurs if you do not remove a tampon. You should change them every 4hrs or so. Toxic shock syndrome would start to take affect after about 12hrs or so I would think.

It is up to you. You are NOT too young for tampons. Your body was physically ready the minute you got your period. If you decide to try them, read the directions, remember to breathe, and relax. If the tampon hurts are it is inserted, then in isn't in completely. Take it out and try again. Change your tampons every 6 hours, and you shouldn't have to worry about TSS. (never leave a tampon in longer than 8 hours).
Here's a link if you can't find the instructions: http://womenshealth.about.com/cs/azhealthtopics/ht/How_Insert_Tamp.htm
You can also do as Jessie suggested and put toilet paper in your underwear until you can get the pad. Just keep an eye on the toilet paper, and change it often.

You should use the pads, Cause if its your second day your just not ready for them you could damage your vagina. So the pads would work best to. Just wake them up and say you need them. You should use the Tampons probly in the next 2 years at the most.
Hope everything works out,
Best of luck Michelle

I'm guessing you are still young...Don't be alarmed since I'm a guy...But to get to the point, you should just go to your parents bathroom and get yourself some pads. But really its your choice on what you feel is more comfortable to you. Its your first step on growing up. =)

you could sneak into their room without waking them up and if they do wake up your nana will def. understand! I started off using pads but realized that tampons were more pratical. but since you are just starting your period, I wouldn't suggest tampons unless you've had sex. tampons are very simple, just read the directions and relax. = )

You should probably use pads for a while since you're so new to it. Once you're used to it, tampons are probably better. You'll feel cleaner!

DO NOT USE TAMPONS UNTIL YOU ARE OLDER. GO GET THE PADS OUT OF YOUR NANA'S BATHROOM. WHERE IS YOUR MOTHER?

I would go with pads as tampons can be very uncomfortable and can cause toxic shock syndrome.
