Heard an interview on V103 Chicago this morning w/Michael's father and Al Sharpton; please browse internet for more information. Michael is back in jail for violating probation, in front of same judge that tried him as an adult; father lost his job; family has to pay over $600/month for counseling WHILE HE IS IN JAIL. Anyone ever heard of such a thing? And the 10 months in jail he already served (as an adult, mind you) does not count as time served.

What is wrong with the people of Jena????

Please let me hear your thoughts.

He's back in jail because he violated his probation. He's a repeat violent offender. Fighting is a violation of probation. He hasn't learned his lesson. As part of his sentence he agreed not to get into trouble if he remained out of jail and he wouldn't live up to his word. He, along with five others, decided to attack one other individual. I don't see how Al Sharpton can say this is unfair. Good luck. 2D

Michael has a few prior charges on him, and all before the age of 16. Why not put him back in jail. I mean comon' I'm almost 30 and have never been arrested. I use good judgement. There have been times when violence would have made me feel a whole lot better and the person probably deserved it, but I know better.
As for the 10 months served, they can't count as time served because violation of probation is an offense in itself.
I do think this "kid" should be back in jail, and it should not have anything to do with race. It has to do with his criminal record, and his actions taken.

As for the original incident..
The nooses were appalling to say the least, and these idiots should have been punished appropriately. I don't think 3 days suspension is enough.
I am not from the south, but what the hell is a "white" or "black" only sitting spot? I guess I'm used to a mixed and well blended culture, because the schools I went to...everyone mixed in and sat together.
And those boys shold have faced a much harsher punishment.
As for the beating, physical violence was not an appropriate response to the situation. I would say that because it was a "high school" fight, that they shouldn't be charged as hefty as they were, but they did all attack at once leaving the kid no chance to fight back, and many of them were of age.
The punishments should have been adjusted for each individual based on prior convictions. As with any race, they should be FAIRLY prosecuted. But, most of the fuss is about that exactly. They don't feel that thy were prosecuted fairly. I think they should have got charged with assult just as other adults who lets say....got into a bar fight or something, and sentincing should have been based on priors.

His previous time spent in jail had to do with the beating not violating his probation. I think 18 months in a juvenile facility after 3 seperate charges of misdemeanor battery is a completely APPROPRIATE sentence for a REPEAT OFFENDER!! This young man needs to take the time he is serving and use it to rehabilitate himself, learn how to control his anger and reenter society well adjusted and productive...If you aren't part of the solution Michael you are part of the problem!!

And to chameleon you cannot liken the struggle of the Civil Rights movement and Martin Luther King Jr's fight for equal rights to a bully beating another person...MLK protested PEACEFULLY and with a rational voice fought for what was only right...He never raised his fists or beat another person to get his point across! So please don't liken the Jena 6 to MLK...MLK is in a class all by himself...God rest his soul!!

Bell is in jail because he belongs in jail. He violated his probation when he continued to commit crimes. And his family should use some of the money they collected last month to pay for his probation counseling. They bought new cars and furniture with the money , took some trips and bought other luxury items.

Mychal Bell is on probation for beating up a girl and he should have gone to prison for it instead of getting probation.

I didn't hear about this...I guess if he violated his probabtion then it got what he deserves.

Al Sharpton is nothing but a racist pig, sh*t starter, and only sees color himself. I'm glad the black people I know can't stand the man.

They should have charged all 3 whites (who hung the nooses) and all 6 blacks with hate crimes in the first place.

the subjects in Jena are plenty extra suitable complicated than in basic terms a unmarried schoolyard incident. White little ones have beat up on blacks and gotten in basic terms probation. for somebody to be attempted for attempted homicide of a sufferer who substitute into so injured he went to his prom an same night is ridiculous! the concepts-set that allowed the "tree" to be the indoors maximum defend of white pupils says plenty. once you think approximately that we do no longer be conscious of what the circumstances of the beating extremely have been, what subject concerns have been stated in the previous it, etc., we truthfully can no longer blame this on something extra suitable useful than teenage testosterone stages and racial rigidity supported via the small society in touch.

Oh well!!!
Guess the upstanding citizen he is from the get go has shown his true colors......
One more low life off the streets!!!
I don't care what color he is either......
"Don't do the crime if you can't do the time"!!!!
Period!!!!
Hanging nooses is ignorant, stupid, backwoods, visually assaulting, but beating someone half to death, DESERVES Jail time!!!!! Period!!!

Any kid who beats another kid should be in jail. And before you call me racist, I think the white kids who beat the black kid should be in jail as well, they were let off too easy.

He is in jail because he is a criminal. Not because he is black or white but because he is a criminal. He has been given so much leeway because of all this media hype it is time for him to be punished for ALL of his crimes!!!
