my intrepid has 207000 miles on the 3.3, (same engine with slightly smaller bore) and i've seen these hit 400000 miles. a fialure of a 3.3 or 3.8 is completely unheard of. i've only ever seen 3 replaced. one had almost 200000 miles with almost no oil changes, one had a broken cam, and one ran through a flood and broke a rod. something very unusual happened to your van, trust me. chrysti already posted, and i am sure other techs will also say the same thing. congratulations on having the service contract. they are a great thing to have, there is no doubt about that. a new engine for $100! if you keep your van maintained, there is no need to worry about this happening again. the answer below is funny, because chrysler, dodge, and jeep products come from the same engineers, and the same factories. minivans don't know if they are dodge or chrysler until they get the badges put on. under the bumper cover and badges they are part number for part number the same van.

I'm not sure if an extended plan is a good idea for all purchases. If you can find a company that builds cars consistently to outlast any warranty, you'll be in better shape. Of course, my guess is that higher quality cars would cost more to begin with so... either way you get what you pay for it seems.
It's inexcusable for a modern engine to only last 44k miles. I'm sure Chrysler carefully investigates every blown engine personally, with the engineers responsible doing the teardowns. At least I hope this is the case.

that is almost too hard to believe, ive only seen that happen one time in all my history on a 3.8. did they say what failed? was it the oil pump? and 05 models carried the 7/70 it would have been covered any way but a service contract can pay for itself on a big repair. i have worked here a long time and the only one ive ever seen the customer didnt change the oil until 30k!!

Wait, you say you ran it hard and blew it up so what are you complaining about? If you don't maintain a vehicle and then beat them what did you expect?Had a Dodge Ram go for 180,000 miles and still ran good when I sold it.

don't confuse dodge, jeep, and chrysler 3 seperate divisions with chrysler as the flagship. i own a 2006 pacifcia great car. dodge has always been the bastrard step child of the three with jeep palying a close second in certain models i wouldn't take a dodge for half the cost because my mother after 20 years and many trips to to shop gave up on them as well. Go chrysler

If you bought an Acura instead of a Chrysler, you wouldn't have had this problem. And if it had happened, it would be under warranty and you would have had to pay nothing.
