How does Al Gore win the Nobel PEACE Prize for his efforts on the environment. Obviously they ignore the fact that he flies a gas guzzling private jet EVERYWHERE he goes. His mansion in Tennesee uses more electricty in a month than the average home does in a year. His 2 other homes aren't energy efficient either. Hmmmm, I thought the PEACE prize was for people who made PEACE, not PCBs! Can anyone clarify this?

First off, Vice-President Gore purchases carbon offsets for his air travel (which is not always in a private jet, in fact he flies commercial when ever possible), there by not only remaining carbon neutral, but also encouraging the growth of the green economy.
Second, he won the award the same way anyone does, the Norwegian Noble Committee from amongst those names put into nomination selected him. The Noble Committee is autonomous, though appointed by the Norwegian parliament, and are able to award it to pretty much anyone they please. This year, they chose to award it to Al Gore and the Intergovernmental Panel on
Climate Change.
As for why, the Noble Committee clearly views the environment as a humanitarian issue and has chosen to recognize the IPCC as a body and Al Gore specifically for their efforts in this area. That's their prerogative.

Here is the rationale:

"The Norwegian Nobel Committee said global warming, 'may induce large-scale migration and lead to greater competition for the earth's resources. Such changes will place particularly heavy burdens on the world's most vulnerable countries. There may be increased danger of violent conflicts and wars, within and between states.'". . .
Jan Egeland, a Norwegian peace mediator and former U.N. undersecretary for humanitarian affairs, also called climate change more than an environmental issue.

"'It is a question of war and peace,' said Egeland, now director of the Norwegian Institute of International Affairs in Oslo. 'We're already seeing the first climate wars, in the Sahel belt of Africa.' He said nomads and herders are in conflict with farmers because the changing climate has brought drought and a shortage of fertile lands."

Because the recipients of the Nobel prize are decided by a panel of international experts and not trollish neocons.

the nobel prize is meaningless and has been for years. Look at some of the people who've earned it . - Al Gore, Muta Maathai (for planting trees for god's sake), Jimmy Carter, Yasser Arafat (the terrorist), Kofi Annan (incompetent communist), Nelson Mandela (communist, terrorist), Muhannad Yunus ( a loan shark for poor people).
I can go on and on. The prize has lost its meaning, and sometimes the winners arent' even people.
And 99% of the time, the winners do nothing for peace and are in fact charletans, terrorists, or communists, or tree-huggers.

He's brought the issue to the attention of most of the world. More than any other figure, I'd estimate.

Same way the terrorist and murderer Yassar Arafat won it and the worst president of the 20th century, Jimmy Carter won it and the anti US Secretary General of the UN, Kofi Annan won it. It is obviously agenda driven.
