I don't want to spend too much on the SHINKANSEN, so I thought I could probably travel overnight, to make it cheaper. Do I have to change buses in Tokyo?Or can I simply take a direct bus from here? Any help will be much appreciated. Thanks

As others recommended, bus would be cheaper.

Bus's name "Eastwest Shuttle"
Leaves Nagoya at 11:00PM (but you have to be there by 10:40PM)
Arrives at Utsunomiya at 8:20AM

NON-STOP!!

3,400yen for one-way.

Need reservation either online or phone call.

You would most likely have to take the night bus to Tokyo. You could then transfer on to a bus that is bound for Utsunomiya. Depending on the schedule, it might make sense to take the bus to Tokyo and then continue to Utsunomiya on a local train.

The cheapest way is using by bus. But you have to change buses at Shinjuku in Tokyo.
