Why, when you take the time to ask a question, you can't be bothered to look at the answers you were given and choose a best.

Why do askers leave it for voters to decide when clearly, they ask a question for a reason?????

Am I being TOO pedantic??

I agree with you, especially with regard to very personal questions. I think it is impolite, to say the least, to make people think hard about your life problems and then never even to acknowledge their effort.

I wonder whether you are going to choose a best answer on this one...

Sometimes I really can't pick and think it is more interesting or more fair to leave it to a vote.

But I suspect that some people are just satisfied with the cathartic effect of having posted the question, and are not really interested in the answer.

Sometimes the question does not get the sort of answers the asker was hoping for! I often come across questions that are not really questions but a declaration of belief or ideas!

sometimes I can't chose ... many people give me very nice and useful answers, and I would feel ungrateful to the rest if I picked just one, so I send e-mails thanking for the answers, and I apologise for not picking the best one explaining why ... and anyway ... we're not here for points, but to help ... or at least we should be ... if I ask just for opinions on a certain subject, I do pick the best answers, but according to effort people put into answering, and their honesty, even if I don't agree with what they said ... if I wanted everyone to agree, and if I thought they should, I wouldn't be asking questions ... don't you think it's silly most people chose the answers commenting "exactly what I thought" ... what's the point of it? if confirmation is all we look for, we're never going to learn anything new, or get a new perspective .. and I've noticed a few times some people gave me answers that seemed very much as if they were trying to say what I wanted to hear .. are points really THAT important to pretend even here where everything is so anonymous?

I totally agree with you if people take their time to answer your question you should at least have the courtesy to choose which one helped you best or had the most information etc!! And for all the others that you can't choose but are also helpful a thumbs up would be nice!! xx

No - you are not being TOO pedantic. I agree, people should have the courtesy to pick a best answer. After all, others take the time to provide answers.

I prefer to give my questions the best answer plus you get points for it

some questions have an answer that is the same so how do you decide which is the best

besides if you vote for answers you get points too

Sometimes I ask questions just to blow off a little steam. Or, occasionally, there just isn't a question that feels 'best' to me so I leave that question to the rest of the P&S 'family' to vote on.

But - usually I do go back and read the answers to my questions and occasionally have emailed comments to those who have left comments themselves.

Sometimes I just don't get to my computer for a couple of days and the question lapses or sometimes I can't decide what is the best answer so I leave it to vote.

Sometimes it is too hard to make a choice and best to leave it up to what everyone else thinks.

I think the person ought to take the time to pick a Best Answer because the answerer took the time to answer. Anyone can make up there mind. Just pick one.
