I think life can be cruel to teenagers. One minute you're mom's "baby" the next your parents turn into raving monsters threatening you cos you're not paying household bills.
At the same time, you're expected to be doing well at school.
And if you dare to do more than tread on egg-shells, you're told to get a job cos you're on their back.

Couple that with all the "who am I?" questions, all the worries and doubts about "what is going to happen to me?" All the fears about relationships, maybe not developing properly... plus the awakening to the reality of the hard adult's world... where houses cost a fortune, the choices are really limited yet so confusing... everything wants your attention - the adverts, the TV, the latest songs, trends, what's happening...
and so many decisions to make! Should I try this? Maybe I shouldn't but if I don't, I wont know... And there's only immature inexperience within you, so sometimes the right answers don't come when you need them!

Does life get better? Well, yeh, but only if you make the right decisions for you and your family. So don't be hard on yourself or them.

The best advice I can give is to tell you is to always be sensible and learn a decent trade so that wherever you go, you will always be able to make a decent, honest living.

If that means studying for 4 or 5 years - just DO it!
That way, you'll give yourself the best chance to gain self-respect and some happiness.

As a teenager maybe your at school or college now. Your young and perhaps feel you can change the world. But instead you hangout with friends and go to parties alot and have fun. Nothing wrong with that.

But the crunch comes later when you're out there surviving with all the other worms trying to get a job, being competitive, winning, building up debt, getting married and having kids, more debt, divorce, climbing that work ladder slowly wrung by wrung, handling births and deaths and all life's real events.

Do you understand what I'm saying ?

The only reason you think life is cruel is, perhaps, because people don't understand you or you just can't do or get what you want.

You probably don't have any reponsibilty now, lots of free time. And you don't really understand what it really takes to have a happy and fulfilling life yet.

Perhaps you should ask this question in Yahoo Answers :

"Who would like to be a teenager again ?"

And see how many answer in the positive.

There have been studies done that prove that the brain of a teenager is still growing and changing.
So life can be cruel, but the preception of life in your teens is also distorted. As we age, both the way we look at things and out abilities change drastically.

life isn't cruel in teenage years. i'm a teenager and i think life is beautiful at all age. you see, it depends from a person who leads the life. it may be tough and complicated, but strong minded people can make through this.
i know many people (teenagers), whose life is very complicated. all i can say that it's only their fault. wanting to grow up, trying all 'joys of life' can only lead to thinking that the life is cruel...
i think everything, including life also, is in our hands, and only we can decide how to pass our lives.

it seems cruel because most teenagers are not yet mature enough to handle different situations, it WILL get better as one gets older because by then you will have gained more control of your life and you'll have more choices on how to live it.

As a mother who went through the teen yrs with 3 girls all at once, I can tell you it's gets better. I thought I would go insane with the rebellion that went on. I have wonderful kids and they had their share of trouble during teen yrs. I also had kids that confided in me because they knew I would not judge them. My youngest confessed to me when she was in high school, that she was drinking and doing drugs. I knew because she was an A student and when she started dating this "looser", her grades went down drastically. I told her she couldn't see anymore and offered her help. She did what I asked because she knew I was right. Her grades went right back up and she graduated with honors. My other 2 daughters also confided in me with their problems and we solved them together. Not every mom of teens has the privilege of having their kids confide in them. I was blessed with honest children. Life was tough for them, but worse for me. They are all gown with children of their own and they are all success stories. I know this is rare, but it does happen on occasion.

Life is not cruel to anyone... it's the people you're with who greatly affects your life... So, surround yourself with good ones, be open-minded, be thoughtful about other people's needs, and you'll see that life is beautiful!!!
