Joseph Goebbels quotes

“If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it. The lie can be maintained only for such time as the State can shield the people from the political, economic and/or military consequences of the lie. It thus becomes vitally important for the State to use all of its powers to repress dissent, for the truth is the mortal enemy of the lie, and thus by extension, the truth is the greatest enemy of the State.”

Yes.This is a very simple, basic, frightening method of mind control that spreads like a disease.
As Hitler wrote in his 1925 autobiography Mein Kampf
"In the big lie there is always a certain force of credibility; because the broad masses of a nation are always more easily corrupted in the deeper strata of their emotional nature than consciously or voluntarily; and thus in the primitive simplicity of their minds they more readily fall victims to the big lie than the small lie, since they themselves often tell small lies in little matters but would be ashamed to resort to large-scale falsehoods. It would never come into their heads to fabricate colossal untruths, and they would not believe that others could have the impudence to distort the truth so infamously. Even though the facts which prove this to be so may be brought clearly to their minds, they will still doubt and waver and will continue to think that there may be some other explanation. For the grossly impudent lie always leaves traces behind it, even after it has been nailed down, a fact which is known to all expert liars in this world and to all who conspire together in the art of lying. These people know only too well how to use falsehood for the basest purposes."

Definitely. All you need to do is watch the MP's and Ministers in the current government when they go to Autopilot
and start spouting statistics, that they know are totally false.
e.g. Hospitals have improved under Labour (Only 90 dead)
Crime has fallen steadily for ten years. (Only 20 Teenage
killings this year), and so on ad nauseam.

Yes, this can happen on sorts of levels and we see it quite frequently in everyday lives:

You can tell a child they are worthless; they will soon begin to act that way.

You can convince someone they have talent; though this illusion will not last for longer than the talent show.

You can tell the people we are not ready for another general election.

Fortunately this system is not infallable and lies have a tendency to reveal themselves.

I totally believe that. I think anyone can convince themselves they're telling the truth. However subconsciously they are still aware of the lie.

Good question! Have a star!

"Oh What a tangled web we weave!" is the old saying.

Stick to the truth then you wouldn`t have half the problems.
It may hurt sometimes but it makes you feel a whole lot better.

Anyway, people can suss out a liar and once they do they don`t wanna know someone living in fairyland.

BRING BACK REAL PEOPLE!!!!

Yes. I have a brother that is a compulsive liar. It is amazing some of the stories he has told in which I have been present and he told it so wrong yet he really did believe it.
