...that you are not living a dream and what you dream at night is not actually your real life and you have just briefly woken up?

Hope you can understand that :)

Great answers - though I hadn't meant for people to take it so seriously.

And just for the record I haven't seen the matrix and I don't need medication or pshchological help :)

Answer: You don't KNOW, you only believe that you 'know,' and even then, it could be that their medications (or whatever) are working well ....and you therefore have no proof anyway.

Having experienced Illusion, Delusions and Optical Illusions for a steady 3 week stint as a patient in an ITU, I think I am in a position to know the difference now (although, 'I could be wrong' and that the medications [or whatever] are working really well now......!).

Mind you, some of the questions I've seen here ....they do have me wondering as to my whereabouts...! and as to whether I've been visited by that nice travel agent lady in the beautiful white coat with that 'Scope thing' around her neck again!

Sash.

Have to say its an interesting question that I ask myself from time to time as well.
All I know is that we probably will never have the answer, even though most people will say that the "day" life is real and the "dream" life is what it says it is... a dream.

Come to think of it.... If the "day" life is supposed to be a dream, then how come so many people experience the same things, hear the same news, see the same shows? That wouldn't be possible if it were all a dream, would it?

Waking life has substantial differences to dream life.

In waking life, if you look at something and then look away and then look back again it will still be there. E.g. look at the screen, look away, look back and the screen will still be there. In a dream it will usually have changed into something else.

In a dream, it is difficult to change light levels. E.g. if you press a light switch the room won't light up.

Also if you try reading something it won't mean much, usually.

But that all said maybe there is a substantial similarity in that both are projections of our mind? Maybe waking life isn't "out there" just like sleeping dreams aren't "out there"? Maybe it is just a type of dream that doesn't change as much, and which has working light switches?

I know that because in dreams most senses dont funtion and you cannot really feel life in the environment around. Though some dreams look very real but you'll know its a dream when there seems to be something missing

Because even when you are asleep and dreaming some part of your brain knows instinctively that that is the dream and awakening is the real world. Have you ever had a bad dream and tried to wake up to get away from it? Probably, most people have. Have you ever been in real life and tried to wake up to get away from it? No, because your brain knows you are awake.

I have a secret to share.
Some times, when I´m dreaming and I KNOW it is a dream, I take advantage of this knowledge and do things in normal wake state I wouldn´t do. And I enjoy every minute of it.
In reality you can´t do it without someone abusing you.

How do you realize that a woman won't stab you or shot you or bludgeon you to dying on your sleep? a hundred% of husband murders are performed via somebody they understand..... And pay attention your 'definitions' of 'rape' - the full international has heard it advert nauseum and is getting sick of it... Is there a important question right here.. or are you in common terms residing the feminist nightmare of a few legendary 'rape subculture'? you will only could place self assurance extremely.. that your hazard of being raped contained in usa is approximately 0.02%, and you may prefer to stay to be 2000 to be assured of being raped.... a determine that would not think approximately repeat rapes or distinctive/gang rapes of one sufferer.....

Simple.Just pinch yourself (as you have just woken up) and if it pains then you know it's the test of real time life.

I don`t but I do get medication to stop that sort of thing. I think your spirit leaves your body during sleep anyway. your question is a simple description of psychosis.

Nothing changes. I'd still call them dreams and I'd still call this reality. What would change is the meaning of the words, but that's it.
