I'm writing something and I can't remember what songs we sung in school, apart from the timeless classic "Wheels on the Bus". I especially want something that might have a slightly creepy undertone, or could have one read into it. No religious songs as this story is set in a non-religious school. Especially interested to hear from people who went to school in Ireland in the last 30 years or so.

"When you're walking down the hall, and the teacher racks your balls, it's called RUPTURE!" "When you're sliding into first, and you feel something burst, it's called RUPTURE!" I forget how the rest goes.

We sang Senor Don Gato.
It's about a cat who gets so excited about a letter from his favorite "lady" cat that he falls off the roof and is carried away for dead.
As the funeral procession passed the market square, there was a strong smell of fish in the air and Don Gato was revived because of the smell.

It's silly, I know. But I remember it after more than 30 years, so I guess there's something good about it.

Ring a round the rosy is about death...

Actually most kids nursery rhymes and stories have creepy undertones. Don't get me started on Peter Rabbit. Seriously

Old Roger is Dead is one of the creepiest songs I ever sang in school. Here's the lyrics.

Welsh ones.

Ji ceffyl bach.
Mi welais jac y dô.
Dacw Mam yn dwad.
Pwy sy'n dwad dros y bryn?

Here's an example...the shortest one..
"Mi welais jac y dô,
Yn eistedd ar ben tô,
Het wen ar ei ben..
A dwy goes bren
Ho, ho, ho ,ho, ho, ho."

Roughly translated (although it doesn't rhyme in English)...remember it's a kindergarten song.....
" I saw a jackdaw,
Sitting on the roof,
A white hat on his head...
And two wooden legs,
Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha."

Ah, memories!
