I am going to a medievil party in 4 weeks, but I don't have spare money to hire or buy a costume... Anyone have any cheap ideas? Were pirates around then? Or anything like that?

Pirates were a small bit later, 1,200 years or so !! ......... The vikings were around in medieval times as were the celts in Britain and Ireland .....you can look up both and see what you find ! you wouldn't be far wrong if you went like liv tyler in Lord of the rings ... she would represent a noble of this age !
a cloak over a long dress .... brooch essential !!

You didn't say how old you were which matters.
You could costume up as the follow:
A Black Smith
A Beer Meister
An Explorer from the European nation of your choice
The town magistrate or sheriff
A tax collector for the king

Although piracy was rampant during the Medieval times the clothing was pretty much whatever you may have found to clothe yourself with.
Look around. Google "medieval clothing' under "images" and see what you come up with.
