no, it's a copyright issue.
The reason it isn't with the titanic is because it was something in history. A real boat. Hogwarts is something that she created. It's hers and she says who can use it.

No, there are copyright issues here and allowing one unauthorized use of her product will open a floodgate.

She's a very generous woman who is honorary chair of the Multiple Sclerosis society in Scotland. The disease killed her mother. She also runs--and may have founded an organization for single parents having been in that situation after her first marriage ended.

Remember, she has put up a reward fund of over $4.5 million for the safe return of a young British girl, 4 year old Madeleine McCann, a child she's apparently never met, who vanished in Portugal last summer.

That's compassion, not greed.

I can't see JK Rowling desperate for income. Publicity, maybe, but not money. I don't think it's either. She created the HP universe, it is entirely within her rights to say who can and who cannot use it. On the other hand, how come she didn't sue all the bookstore owners that threw HP parties when her last book was launched? Hmmmm.......

I don't think she is greedy. She has created a world through her books, and is entitled to make sure that others do not profit from her imagination with out due compensation.

Even if this festival is non-profit, she has to make sure that the organizers do not sell the marquee to someone who could use it to make money from it.

My guess is that the money will be just leverage to make the organizers deal with her and Bloomsbury. I wouldn't be surprised if the resolution won't be something like an official acknowledgment that the marquee is take from her work, is used with her permission and an understanding that it will be totally destroyed afterwards.

I agree with a previous poster about the fact it may not be her, but the publishing company. I don't feel it is greed or desperation. It is a world she created and if she starts letting people use it without going through the proper channels for approval, it will just escalate out of control.

Ah, J.K Rowling, a pure and simple case of being in the right place at the right time. She doesn't write particularly well and obviously got way too much fame and fortune way too quickly. Lucky *****, though!

I agree with Bonitaka. Are you absolutely certain it is just her pitching a PMS-fit? Or is it part of a contractual agreement with her publisher? I am reserving judgement until more information presents itself.
