I am going to the doctor to see if I have PCOS today after having dealt with menstruation problem for six years. What questions should I ask my doctor? I have a problem being on birth control. I don't want to be on it... at all. Are there other things that he could put me on if I do have PCOS?

Thanks in advance all.

well i haev pcos and it sounds like you do. when i went i told him i was not having periods but once or twice a year so he did and scan on my ovaries to look for cycts and there were. if you have a cyct he will ahev to put you on birth control becaus ethey can be dangerous but if you want to conceive he will most likly put you on birth control to get you to have a monthly for a while but well soon take you off and give you a fertilty drug. pcos can be painful and heart breaking . i have had it since the age of 12 and it is a problem

well he could put you on metformin this can be quite good for pcos, it can help with some of the symptoms of pcos weight, irregular periods hair, etc (sometimes)

this might explain it better.

he will properly want make sure you have got it see it have got it by doing an ovaries scan first though.
if your not trying to conceive most women do take the pill as way of controlling the irregular periods, but understand you not wanting to be on it.

there's a lot of options out there for you-metformin works for some women-other women may choose to try and help the symptoms of PCOS through diet (most PCOS patients are 'insulin resistant'), others use Provera to bring on a period every few months...your doctor may send you to an endocrinologist, or if you are trying to get pregnant, a reporoductive specialists. good luck.
