I am thinking that if we were to legalise drugs then just maybe we would reduce the amount of crime because most of the crimes committed are because of drugs. Prohibition of alcohol did not work in the USA, and a lot of police admit that they are losing the war on drugs.

Definately but there should be an age limit just like we have with alcohol and tobacco. The problem with most chemical drugs is that you can't know for sure whats in them. People mix all kinds of stuff (talcum powder, icing sugar etc) into powders and pills like cocaine and MDMA. If they were controled and regulated then they would be 100% pure, this would mean less overdoses, less unwanted side effects and less paranoia.

Paranoia is interesting. I have found that in most cases, it is caused by the fear of getting caught or seen by someone who is in authority (police, parent, boss). It seems that the fear of being exluded from the pack is the main reason that people can become paranoid. Surely if drugs were controled, this unwanted side effect would be mostly eliminated.

Drugs can ruin lives but they can also enhance them too. What I dislike most is when a bunch of people who have never tried drugs at all, start repeating government propaganda from the 1920/30's and spreading it to other people who don't know any better. Why don't these people learn about the positive side of drugs as well? I guess it wouldn't fit in with their agendas.

I've had some great times on various drugs but I have only ever had one bad experience. Compare that to alcohol, I've had some great times on that too but there are many nights that I would rather forget.

Stop wasting tax money and police time on a war on drugs which just like the war on terrorism, can never be won. You can't stop people taking drugs completeley, we have been using them for different reasons for thousands of years. Get the dealers of the streets, cut out drug related crime and focus on the more important issues like giving kids all over the world, a good education.

I agree with Zylah - legalisation would cut the feet off the pushers and in a controlled environment there would be less people dying of overdosis or bad stuff . Tax it and make it available , prohibition only creates an underworld .

I personally think that cannabis should be non criminalised because it is a naturally grown plant and is considered good for some medical conditions and,as far as i know there are not many people who commit crimes to buy it and it does not seem to be addictive and, certainly more safe than alcohol.
As far as the more serious drugs are concerned such as,Heroin,Cocaine,Crack,PCP, these should be made completely illegal owing to the damage they cause both to the user and, their friends and family.
There are many more raids for Cannabis here in the UK than for other harder drugs which to me seems out of proportion considering the dangers of the other drugs.

Yes, I agree that we should legalise drugs. A huge amount of jail space would open up for violent criminals, if they released some of the ones incarcerated for non-violent drug offenses. As it stands, it's almost just like the era of alcohol Prohibition all over again.

Yes. Legalize it all and take the power away from monsters. Tax the hell out of it and use the funds to support social programs, scientific research, education and emergency relief.

The WAR on DRUGS is failing, and has failed from the beginning. It is a joke that is ruining lives.
