Hi all, i have just go a compost bin,i am unsure of what to put in it,but my main question is can i put meat in it?also any other helpfull advice on what i could put in my compostbin?many thanks.

eugh i forgot about maggots being attracted to meats...yuk

No! It draws flies and makes maggots. ewwwww!
Egg shells are great, as are all your grass clippings and vegetables. Avoid cheeses and processed foods with any meats in them. There are many books out on the market on composting and a good one to start with might be Organic Gardening for Dummies- although I hate being called a dummy!

Veg yes Meat No. The reason that you should not put meat in a composter, other than maggots is the risk of Ecoli Bacterium amongst others forming within your compost. If this is then used to grew Veg in you garden, then you will get very ill indead.

If you have a good, hot (properly functioning) compost pile meat and bones can be placed in the hot center of the pile and maggots are not a problem.
It is best to cut the meat into small pieces,

I don't think there are any benifits, and probably a lot of detriments. Smell, flys etc.
Compost smells bad enough without meat in it.

No meat, we use our for grass cutting & any uncooked vegetables, basically anything that can decompose naturally and then be used as compost, which wouldn't include meat

Do not use meat, bones or meat products. It might attract varmints, like rats, mice, possums, skunks, etc.
Put only plants, leaves, grass cuttings, vegetable waste, fruit waste.
Throw some dirt on it occasionally. Sprinkle some water on it occasionally - maybe once a month at most.

I wouldn't, rotting meat can go rancid and will smell so gross.
Vegie scraps, garden rubbish etc make good compost, oh and some live worms

You shouldnt as the meat will attract varmits like opossums and skunks.
