I have a 2001 Yamaha XLT1200, and there is water in the fuel system. Spark plugs were just replaced, battery is charged. When you remove a spark plug, you can see the water shooting up when you try to start the engine. It has a 2-cycle engine, and the gas tank is completely full (18 gallons!) Not sure on what percentage is water and what is fuel though. Last time I filled it I put in about 12 gallons, before I realized what was wrong with it. I will siphon the gas out of the tank, but not sure what else I may need to do. Any help would be much appreciated!

Both of the previous answers are essentially right, your options are either:

-Drain the tank and refill with fresh gas, or;

-Add some isopropyl alcohol (most commonly found under the brand name Iso-Heet). Isopropyl alcohol allows the water to dissolve in the gasoline and be burned with the rest of the fuel. Isopropyl alcohol can be found at your local auto parts store.

Dump in one gallon of IPA Isopropyl alcohol with a half tank of gas. The IPA breaks down the water and burns with the gas removing all water from tank.

Ellen and the others are pretty much correct...Make sure to use isopropyl alcohol---it is chemically missing a water molecule and will absorb any water in the gas much better than methyl alcohol products. Just buy it at a drug store...also known as rubbing alcohol---much cheaper than a fancy product at a parts store.

get some ethanol and pour about a gallon to five of gas, if you dont have ethanol, go to home depot, and buy a gallon of denatured alcohol, and run that the same mix, the alcohol absorbs the water then the gas absorbs the alcohol, then the engine burns it
