With the CIA seen critical in some parts of the world for abducting suspected terrorists and transferring them to friendly allies for further questioning, the thought came to mind, why do we not outsource part of our prison system. I have seen cost numbers per prison inmate per year here in the US of $100,000.

I am sure that Turkey, a good ally in our war in Iraq could take care of our problem at a fraction of that cost. A possible win/ win. The Republic of Georgia (another good ally, who have just more than doubled their troop commitment in Iraq) or Russia with its low cost prisons in Siberia could also be candidates.

The cost savings for the US taxpayer, perhaps as much as 90%. Not to mention the element of deterrence when repeat offenders and hardened criminals face "outsourcing".

I assume, not really a new proposal, still your thoughts?

Constitutionally speaking, it would be a violation due to the countries you mentioned common practices of what could be termed cruel and unusual punishment.

Now...as a career cop, I'll pledge part of my salary to :
A. Pay for a referendum to amend the Constitution to allow it.
B. Pay for the transport of said convicts to our "allies" detention facilities.

the place have you ever been for the previous decade? we choose our prisoners right here, in privatized prisons, serving ridiculously long sentences so as that inner maximum corporation can use detention center exertions at $a million/hr. Do you extremely think of the wealthy people who've invested in privatized prisons prefer to work out their low value exertions rigidity bypass away? no longer a raffle.

Much of our prison system has already been outsourced to private companies in the US. I have never heard of outsourcing internationally. It is probably unconstitutional.
