I'm not sure how it will affect him monetarily, but I really don't think that it will cause him to change musically. He is one of the few artists left that I have faith in. I'm sure that it will have a good impact on his listeners, since he now holds control. He doesn't seem to support the greed of record labels, so maybe we can hope to support him by actually paying for his tunes at a lower rate?

This is rather interesting to say the least. Seems like some friction between him and Interscope had been going on for quite some time. The demise of his Nothing label likely hastened this. Still, he always had a unique relationship in that Interscope didn't really interfere with what he was trying to accomplish. I can only hope it will be good because I never thought I'd see the day where Trent came out with mediocrity.

I think someone as creative as Trent Reznor will flurish outside the controlls of a record label. Wish more bands took that route these days music would be far more interesting than the generated pop / punk crap that keeps coming out

Spooky - I hate to admit, but sometimes it's self-destructive when an artist acts as his own agent. I've dealt with a few artists who have gone this route, and whom the public hasn't really heard from in years. To some it conveys a sense of desperation. Please, someone slap me for saying this - but it's true :( It really does suck how people see it this way.
After an artist has been signed with a major label, it's hard to identify them in a DIY way. Then again, artists like Al Jourgensen (which, you all know - Ministry) and Michael Aston (Gene Loves Jezebel) have done it -- so Reznor, should, too.

I think it is perfect for him - he will be able to do what ever the hell he wants and that seems to have been the biggest beef in his career.

I am very happy for him and will continue to support NIN and everything Trent does. There are to few people like him in the business right now, meaning an artist not just someone who wants to get rich fast and get on MTV cribs!

You know, I asked this question this morning and it was reported as a violation and deleted... how ridiculous.

I'm not sure how it'll turn out, I'm guessing it'll be a good thing in the long run. He will be able to do what he wants with his career and probably offer more to his fans at a lower cost. We'll see, hope it turns out to be a positive thing.

Watch out for those people who like to report false violations!

Honestly, I think it will be good. He's the kind of musician that doesn't need supervision, and will do better when let out of the major-label cage.

It will be interesting to see how this affects his work, if it does at all.
