Big turn-off when nice-looking females use them. Expletives are really not necessary in normal conversation. Ok once in a blue moon when something terrible, unexpected, unusual, etc happens. In an educated, ethical group of sensible friends, we shouldn't use expletives at all. Why use them in public and give other listeners an idea of the quality of your upbringing or background?Shouldn't we value privacy a bit more?Let's also have some 'class' and not imitate others blindly.

I think that expletives are like most things - there is a time and a place for them. I've endured times when the only word to adequately express my state of mind was an expletive. Likewise, I've seen a few instances where that's true in others. One example that comes to mind is the audio on an unedited videotape of the reaction of someone in NYC on 9/11 as he saw the second plane hit the WTC; his exclamation of "Jesus f*cking Christ" couldn't have been more appropriate in my opinion.

As you have observed, constant use makes expletives ineffective, at best, and just plain comical at worst. To me, someone who can't GENERALLY express himself any better than that is just plain BORING, and generally isn't somebody I'll hang around for very long.

I swear to make a point (which is admittedly a lot of the time on here). I don't consider myself as having a limited vocabulary, and I have a good grasp of the English language.

IMHO, there's a time for eloquence and a time to f*cking swear!

I think it depends on the swearer! I mean, Billy Connolly can say the dreaded F word and it's just funny, but when you get people asking you to pass the f*****g salt, it's just dumb. I never swear in front of my, or anyone else's, children, and I expect the same courtesy back. If someone sounds ignorant, undereducated or aggressive anyway, then swearing certainly doesn't help their case any.

swearing is part of vocabulary so it isn't an indication of poor vocabulary, people who swear may not have a way of expressing themselves other than to swear, but i swear when relevant but i do hold back at times

Shakespeare said " A rose by any other name would still smell as sweet" If the word for woman was b*i**t*c*h then 1/2 the population would be bitches

Years of working with slobs has rubbed off on me, unfortunately, although I an trying to watch my language.

You tend to forget that people who don't work with their hands don't swear under normal circumstances.

Swearing can be used very effectively without offending anyone. But i agree that it can be used too much by people and become annoying.
