Hi everyone! I can never get answers on here in any of the sections except LBGT - says a lot of good stuff about us!! Anyway, I was on MSN earlier and a friend asked me if I wanted to see some new pics of her (at least I thought the message came from me friend) turns out it was a virus and now it keeps asking MY contacts if they want to see new vacation pics of ME (which don't exist) and asks them to accept a zipped file. As soon as I realized my mistake, I deleted the zipped file, but the damage seems to be done. My computer is running very slowly now. Arghh. Does anyone know how I can get rid of this virus? I looked up some steps online, but they aren't working for me. HELP!

Ahh viruses, pain huh? There is two different things you could do and I'm sure they will get rid of it. First I would try a system restore, you can access this (providing you have a newish Microsoft OS) by going start, accessories, system tools, then system restore. Then run the system restore and restore your computer to a date when you know you didn't have the virus. This should then reboot and you should see if it's fixed it.. if not... there is a free virus scanner out there called AVG, which you can search for on google which i find brilliant. There is also more free programs called Ad-aware and spybot. I hope these get rid of it!! Goodluck!

I usually look up information about the virus I'm dealing with on symantec.com. It can be tricky to find the right information there but you can try. Also, a free virus scan is available at housecall.trendmicro.com.

Does this have anything to do with your problem:

I suggest posting at the bleepingcomputer.com forum about your problem and the "HijackThis" (free program that displays all running processes including hidden ones) log, and they'll help you get rid of it step-by-step.
