Basically anything by Bon Jovi, like It's Hard Letting You Go, Always, Bed Of Roses, Come Back, I'll Be There For You, and a bunch more that I can't think of by Bon Jovi. Also Avril Lavigne's When You're Gone. Big And Rich's Holy Water. Reba's Does He Love You, If You See Him/Her and then her duet with Kelly Clarkson Because Of You. If you need anymore you can find the songs and lyrics using www.metrolyrics.com as long as you know the artist. I hope that helped.

I guess they are many. I will just tell you some in English, as I guess you're not interested in Spanish or Italian... I find Sad Eyes and Streets of Philadelphia, both by Springsteen to be quite depressing. Always by Bon Jovi is v.romantic but makes me a sad (probably after seeing the video). The track of my tears, by Linda Ronstadt also makes me quite sad. Oh! And I don't wanna miss a thing, by Aerosmith. And I'm sure there are many many more I could think of, I just can't remember them now! :-)

There are a number of them around but the one on top of my head would be by Kane - Dreamer. the singer wrote it for his wife who died of cancer.
Here is a clip with the song.

I suppose the text of this one may be harder to understand unless you know the background:

Another would be from the musical Les Miserables, "Empty Chairs at Empty Tables" when Marius finds himself the only survivor of the uprising.

Just had a quick look and they have a lot of suggestions here:

Eric Clapton - Tears In Heaven. You can't get any more sad then that, he wrote it after his son died. It's kinda a hard song to listen to.

Midnight Blue - Electric Light Orchestra.
Try this for emotional stuff. I guess there aint a single person it wouldn't relate to at some point in their life.
This sorta stuff is best played at 2 in the morning while listening to the rain scratching at the window......try it.
