Well people are always looking to save a buck. I don't think that thy believe it is fixed but thy are trying to prolong it.
Thy just hope it will go away or thy say I just don't have the money now.
Turning off this light is just another way of hopeing it will fix itself.
It is like the guy that has a tooth ace. shire it hurts and when you get to the den-test it don't hurt anymore.
The bad thing about all this is the light is telling you the cars computer has found something that should not be there. So when it comes on people are looking for a cheep and fast fix.

People don't think it will fix the problem but they do think - and rightfully so - that dealers (with no exceptions) are lousy crooks and will take advantage of them if given a chance. Knowing - at least approximately - what the problem might be gives the owner some degree of protection against fraud.

most people dont think it will fix the problem... but it gives them an idea of where to start and how much it will cost to fix the problem.
