When statistics show that more Americans try marijuana than Dutch people, or that people under the age of 21 abuse alcohol more here than in Europe, why do Americans still foolishly support "thou shalt not" policies that merely encourage the behavior?

Well because children are not responsible enough to drive with an open bottle of Jack and a lit joint at the same time...who is going to accept responsibility for the disaster the above scenario creates? you? I didn't think so...so until you are ready to bear the full burden for every problem created by intoxicated minors or anyone else fubared on what ever other drug you think should be legal, quit griping about the way we choose to deal with alcohol and other drugs. Now if you are willing to accept that responsibility then by all means legalize every drug and make alcohol available to every 15 year old ...I'll be the first in line to sue you when a stoned, drunk hippie crashes into a school bus full of children and kills all the kids.

Anything that's forbidden is always more alluring. We had alcohol prohibition in the US in the 1920s. It didn't work at all in spite of some pretty hefty government raids on alcohol stashes. In fact, prohibition gave rise to one of the most vicious crime waves the US has ever known.

Almost everyone drives above the speed limit. So we should get rid of speed limits?
