Give me your most overrated team, and your most overrated player in the NHL.

New York Rangers. Everyone's going on about how they got Drury and all that, but they're famous for getting all the big stars and not doing much with them. I'll have to see how they go before I'm convinced.
Player... Zdeno Chara. He's been very ordinary since he got away from his supporting cast in Ottawa. Boston is mediocre, but he really hasn't been a driving force to take them to the next level. Or Dustin Penner. I mean the public doesn't rate him, but Edmonton burst the bank to get him over there.

Don't pay any attention to some of these posts ... Scott Niedermayer overrated? The guy has one 4 cups? How many Norris trophies? He just got a Conn Smythe too. Also, in 1053 career games, he has 608 points. In 183 playoff games, he has 86 points. He is plus +186 in his career ... overrated? My ***.
The Senators are definitely not overrated right now. They have been a cup contender for the past 4-5 years.
The most overrated team is either Pittsburgh or New York. Everyone acts like because the Penguins have one guy (and he is an amazing player, I don't mean to say he isn't), they are going to win the cup right now. They also have a lot of youth, and a goalie that still has very much to learn. New York is overrated for the reasons already stated. Plus, they went out and signed the most overrated player in Scott Gomez. He has scored more than 20 goals in a season only once in his entire career. He has only cracked the 80 point barrier once. He gets all of his points on assists, which, while good, should not mean he should get the money that NY is paying him.

Overrated team: Anaheim Ducks - Not only are they getting a full frontal Stanley Cup hangover, they're down 3 of their biggest contributors, in Niedermayer, Selanne, and (for now) JS. A repeat is far from possible, that's even if they make the playoffs... where was Carolina last year? Oh yea...
Overrated player: Scott Gomez - Lots of hype, saying he will orchestrate a new era of synergy between Jagr and Drury, really he's just a flop and there's absolutely no chemistry in their line.
PS: To you who mentioned Senators as being overrated, how can you possibly make that founded argument? 11-0-0 counting preseason games, what are you on?

I honestly can't think of any team that is overrated. The general sentiment to me from the public is about on course with the teams themselves.
The most overrated player in my opinion is Sean Avery. Here is a guy who was booted out of Detroit, kicked off of Los Angeles, and Rangers fans think he's going to take them to the promised land. He's not. Jagr, Shanahan, Malik, Lundqvist, Drury, Gomez, and Straka are the guys that will get you there.

In the new NHL of speed and no obstruction he has proven to be a big slow footed dinosaur and is regularly blown by by the fleet skaters coming into the league.

Penguins are the most overrated team. This young core group of players are good, but have yet to even win a playoff series. Some "experts" have them winning the cup, but that is false. They are about a year or two away from that. I am from Pittsburgh and love the Pens, but you have to be realistic, this team has defensive holes and Recchi is getting very old and it has already easily seen this year that he needs to retire. Most overrated is Bertuzzi, how brutal was the trade Luongo for him? He is not very good anymore but for some reason people still say how good he is. He blows.

Rangers are the most overrated team.
Bertuzzi is the most overrated player. (no doubt he has the skill and the size but he just doesn't have the mental discipline to put it all together on a consistent basis)

Most over-rated player in NHL history has to be Scott Niedermayer. Most over-rated team is likely the Sabres considering how much they've lost heading into this year.

I agree with most that the Rangers are the most over rated team.
For player, I have to go with Bertuzzi also. His time has come and gone. If he stays healthy it will be a miracle plus watching him last year playing with Detroit, he looks like he's gone a little soft.
