Every day at lunch I use the computers at school and something weird happened today. I was on msn and I got a popup messege that said "this is the helpdesk please leave msn as it's not school related" I didn't know what to make of this so I ignored it a few minutes later I got another message that said "If you don't get off of msn your program will be terminated" It's like a chat where you can chat with this help desk if you have problems so I asked what it was and if it was a real person and he said he was a teacher who was monitoring students on computers. I left msn so I wouldn't get kicked off the computer.
Do you think that this is fair??? I don't they have no right to invade our privacy like that.

Like they said it is for school related things only. If you are on MSN doing whatever you are taking advantage of the school. PLUS what if another student were waiting to do some serious work while you surf?

Bottom line it is their service, their computer, their property, their world, you are just a squirrel trying to get a nut! (lol)

Yup, it's fair. I wouldn't even call it spying. I'm guessing at the beginning of the school year you had to sign an Internet Usage Agreement. I bet if you were to read that it would clearly state what is and is not allowed, as well as stating that monitoring takes place. This is what my children's school district does, as well as many others. You are there to learn; and the school provides computers as a way to help you. It is irresponsible to take advantage of that. Your personal business should be conducted on your own time, not on school time.

EDIT:
Sorry, I wasn't trying to be mean. The fact is that even though you weren't doing anything really harmful, someone else might be. The school can't draw an arbitrary line of what is ok and what isn't so all personal use can't be allowed. Imagine if you were a kid who didn't have a computer at home because her family can't afford one. The schools computers are what she has to rely on. Now imagine if your school had to ban all students from using the Internet because students keep breaking the rules. How would you feel if you were that girl who had no other way of doing Internet/research homework? I know school can get boring; I'm not an old prude. But if you stand back and realize what kind of service your school is providing for you maybe you will see it differently. Do you realize how many kids have no access to computers at home or school because their parents and school districts can't afford them? You really are fortunate and should follow the rules to show appreciation and respect for all that you are provided with. And really, I'm not an old meany, I'm 29 and I consider myself pretty cool. I'm just trying to show you another way to look at the situation.

I would hope they WOULD pay attention to what students are doing on computers at school!

The computers are school property, not your personal property. They are there as tools, not toys, and you are there to learn.

You'll be an adult soon enough, and able to do whatever you want. While you're in school make the best of the opportunities you have. You'll be surprised how much you've learned, and how much of it will apply to careers and life in general.

Best of success, Lili

If the computers belong to the school, they have the right to decide how the students use the computers.

It's the school's property, the students are on the school's time, and all of this is paid for by taxpayers. There is no right to privacy in public school--except obviously bathrooms or gym shower rooms--but then again the coaches or teachers go in those areas. Do school stuff on school time.

i think of the mom and dad have a case. the college had no enterprise spying on their scholars. What they do interior the privateness of their own properties is between the student and the mom and dad.

Get used to it - we live in a Big Brother society. There is no such thing as privacy anymore.

I do. As the computers are their property, and they are responsible for what you see. What if you were looking at porn? They have every right to see what your doing.

I reckon they should just block the sites , because you shouldn't be on them in the first place.
