A picture of a Godfather would look like any person who has been chosen to be a godfather. The parents, at the christening, choose godfathers and godmothers to stand in for the infant when the Priest baptizes the baby. The priest asks questions along the line of "Do you abjure satan?" The Godparents answer for the baby. During the raising of the kid, the Godparents are suppose to help the parents oversee the child's life in the church and religious education. A more secular meaning has entered our culture, where the people named as godparents are named to be the guardians of the child should anything happen to both parents, leaving the kid an orphan.
