I try not to let others expectations rule my moods. It does get to me sometimes and that is usually when my feelings of being a failure rear their ugly heads. Mothers are wonderful and terrible creatures! She is still the one that can hurt me most and I am 45! But I have learned to stand up for myself, to squash those awful feelings and look at my accomplishments as positives- even if all I accomplished today was getting up!

Some times, that's when I hide away in my room or where ever I will be left alone and take some personal time. Stress doesn't help anything so be sure to relax as needed to stay level headed.

Luckily, I'm not in a situation that I'm having a problem with that, it's the expectations that I put on myself that makes things hard on me!!

Yes...I have had to learn to shift my thoughts and actions to fit my own goals. I am becoming better at sidestepping other people's expectations, especially if they are in conflict with where I want to focus.

yeah..
it's like i can't do things that you expect me to do all the time!
and most of them are basic assumptions that people i don't really know make of me
"i just expect you to do well on the test because ... "
but they don't know me? how can you expect that .. just by looking at me?

Yep.
There.
Its making me give everything up.
I can't keep up with their expectations.
So, I'm failing in college.
I'm screwing up at work.
Basically I just want to go far away and start over.
