dvd-r and music?

Question

i accidentally purchased dvd-r cds by mistake when i meant to purchase cd-r's...i didnt bother to return them because i heard u can put music on them as well and play them on dvd players..i have a dvd-rw drive on my computer can i use this to burn music to the dvd. or how do i do it exactly. is it the same exact process as burning a regular cd? step by step directions if thats necessary please. thanks.
