That's a negative.
On the one hand, 1 cup of air-popped popcorn only has 30 calories, and lots of fiber, but on the other hand it doesn't offer much of anything else...no vitamins or minerals, and what little protein it contains is more than offset by the carbs.
Air-popped popcorn would be a great supplement to dinner, as a snack to tide you over until dinner's ready, or to make you feel a little full from the fiber so you eat less at dinner. However, as a substitute for dinner it's not so great.
Sadly, eating your popcorn with "lots of butter on it", while delicious, pretty much cancels out any benefits of snacking on popcorn.
