Psoriasis cannot be prevented, but it can be controlled. Certain triggers may be controlled or eliminated to help curb the outbreaks. Take these measures to prevent flare-ups of psoriasis.
+ Avoid sunburn by limiting sun exposure, following recommendations from the healthcare professional.
+ Limit the skin's exposure to water by taking short showers and baths and by limiting swimming.
+ Eliminate triggers such as alcohol and smoking.
+ Avoid rubbing or scratching the skin.
+ Avoid clothing or sports equipment that rubs the skin.
+ Use skin care products recommended by the healthcare professional to avoid dry skin.
+ Use stress- management techniques as needed.
+ Discuss medicines with the healthcare professional and avoid those that trigger flare-ups of psoriasis.
+ Seek prompt treatment of infections and other illnesses.

An assessment of lifestyle, including stress levels and aggravating factors, should be made. Triggers should be reduced or eliminated. Gentle removal of scales is important. Oils or coal tar preparations can be added to baths, and a soft brush can be used to scrub lesions carefully. Emollient creams, such as those containing alpha hydroxy acids or salicylic acid, may be used after bathing to soften thick scales. A regular skin routine is important, even when no flare-up of psoriasis is present. Mild to moderate cases of psoriasis can also be treated with medicines that are applied to the skin, including:
+ anthralin
+ coal tar
+ medicines derived from vitamin D
+ retinoids, or vitamin A derivatives
+ steroid creams and ointments, which may be covered with a dressing to increase their effectiveness
Moderate to severe psoriasis may be treated with phototherapy, or exposure to light, that is carefully prescribed by the healthcare provider. Possible options include:
+ PUVA photochemotherapy, which uses a light-sensitizing medicine known as methoxsalen (i.e., 8-MOP, Oxsoralen) together with ultraviolet A light
+ sunlight
+ ultraviolet B irradiation along with one or more topical medicines
Severe psoriasis is often treated with the following oral medicines:
+ cyclosporine (i.e, Sandimmune, Neoral, Gingraf)
+ methotrexate (i.e., Trexall, Rheumatrex)
+ retinoids, such as isotretinoin (i.e., Accutane, Amnesteem, Claravis, Sotret) and acitretin (i.e., Soriatane)
Isolated patches of psoriasis that are resistant to other therapy may be injected with triamcinolone acetonide.
(REMEMBER : DO NOT TAKE ANY MEDICINE WITH OUT CONSULT A DOCTOR)

Psoriasis should clear substantially with appropriate treatment, although this varies from person to person. Treatment of psoriasis is lifelong.

I had a 13 year history of psoriasis, though I was in good health otherwise. But these severe large, thick and scaly excoriated plaques on my neck, ears, trunk and limbs ruined the way I was leading my life. I would be with red, inflamed itchy skin for most part of the year and these silvery scales would seem to be erupting without any reason. To make matters worse, blisters would appear over already red and itching skin. It was living hell.

I was treated with various options but nothing seemed to be working. Some of the treatments that I underwent in this depressing period of 13 years included tar preparation, tropical steroids and anthralin. I was also given light therapy many times but everything I tried would give me temporary relief.

And soon, after a few days I would be plagued with the situation again. In one of those moments when I was completely lost I stumbled upon this website just by chance. I read it and felt that as if someone had put the story my life on this web page. I was thoroughly convinced that if ANYONE can cure me of condition, it would be you.

And was I right, or what. I started recovering within 3 days of starting this treatment. Something that had become a painful part of me for 13 years was actually getting healed! My ears are healed and my neck is smooth again!. I am a month into the treatment and I have never felt better in my life!

Cure psoriasis starting today - even if your doctor or dermatologist says "it's impossible!"
I've just followed a guide called psoriasis free for life that completely cured me of this debilitating and embarrassing disease in less than a month!
Remember, this will not only treat the symptoms that you do see:
the red, inflamed itchy skin.
The silvery scales that seem to erupt for no reason.
The burning or bleeding that occurs around your joints.
The cracking, oozing and painful patches on your skin.
But it also treats the underlying cause of psoriasis - the part you don't see - the actual immune system deficiency that causes these itchy patches to appear and scale over.

You can definitely get back your life, your confidence and your self esteem!

Hi there !
Psoriasis is a chronic, meaning lifelong, condition because there is currently no cure Some psoriasis is so mild that the person is unaware of the condition..Few develop lesions which are widespread.
Cause have been attributed to :
-ethnic
-genetic
-familial
-Immune mediated
Though all these causes are purely based on postulates, no definte cause have been proved.
Hence no definite cure also is there .
Do not get attracted by the wrong / false / fictious advertisements appearing in newspapers which claim 100% cure for psoroasis.
best wishes !

It's a immune-mediated inflammatory, non-contagious skin condition. It usually presents as itchy, red, scaly patches on the skin. Commonly affecting sites such as; scalp, elbows, knees and lower back, etc. But it may occur anywhere on the skin.

There is a type of psoriasis associated with joint disease called "Psoriatic arthritis".

I'm sorry but I can't remember the classification of the disease, if I'm not mistaken there are about 5 different types.

There is no specific cause yet found. But researches have found that certain genetic & environmental factors may trigger the disease.

Anyway, I found this web-site for you. Just look in to it & see if it helps.
Take care.

I believe that I have psoriasis. Several nurses have said I have it ! The doctor I have, says no? I went on a diet that completely illuminated red meat. Within a week 75% of my skin conditions went away! Eating 98% lean hamburger, later, it all came back! Am I crazy?

Sever mental stress can trigger psoriasis, as in my case. I got good relief through homeo medicine. I have also taken good diet along with vitamin supplements and yoga. I have no major effect for the last 2 years.
Well, this should work for others also!
good luck!

There is o remedy for psoriasis. The funniest part is ... cause is unknown. It has tendency to "AUTO DIE" which means it gets cured on its own.
There is no cure for it in any forms of "PATHY"... People who claim to have a cure are cheats and outright fooling people.

Avoid contact with dust and keep the affected area clean. This is the best possible medication for this disease. Dont worry in most of the cases it is non communicable.!!!
