Isn't marriage between one man and one woman protected under common law?
Please explain your take on this....

Since marriage has been legal only between one man and one woman in the USA and laws were even enacted to illegalize the Mormon Practice of Poligamy, isn't there obvious Common Law defining Marriage as between one man and one woman in this country??

Alaska Musher--- Even you title is wierd but (to each his own) "
I think you perverted... One must ascertain the definition of the terms at the time the founders of this country used them to warrent any meaning... If left to perverts they have tried and will continue to pervert every line---By the way our founders did not create a separation of church and state!

Nope. There is no mention of who a marriage is between in the constitution or Bill of Rights.. People have inflicted their religious, moral and closed minded views upon the constitution where no such influence was intended.

People who whine and complain about gays marrying are selfish and self-important. It is none of their business what two adults do in private. A gay marriage does has no affect on anyone else.

It bothers people like you because you want it to bother you. You choose to be nosy and frightened. Mind your own business and keep your personal mores to yourself.

And no I am not. I am not frightened of them either.

Although a law may be stating that in the US, ultimately, the state has the final call on trivial matters such as that. An example of this is Utah, a state in which marriage is a very general commitment.

I am aware of no law that says "one man and one woman".

That is religious law which has no bearing on actual law.

Does this mean that you are ok with men having one wife, and a few sweeties on the side? Especially since he doesn't have to take responsiblity for them because they aren't married.
