Smog check, wont be around?

I wont be around when it comes time for me to get my annual smog check. Can a close friend of mine do it for me? I can pay my car registration online, so that wont be a problem.

Another option is to have the vehicle smogged early. The Certificate is good for 90 days. Unless the laws have changed.
