Good for you. No matter what it takes ... you must prevail. I just got back this weekend from the memorial service for my father who died the week before due to .... any guesses? Yea ... CANCER. He was only 61 years old and it was 100% from smoking cigarettes. We found it early and he died 9 months later.

There is not one positive thing about smoking. I will never get to hug my dad or hear his voice again. Be VERY proud of yourself and when you feel the strong urge to grab one think about the alternative if you keep smoking: lying dead in a casket in a pretty strong strong deterrent if you ask me.

They say it takes 3 months for something to become a habit so take it day by day. Pat yourself on the back for each and everyday until it becomes easier and easier to cope with. Everyone I know who quit and took up exercise at the same time had an easier time of it. Exercise does several things ... it clears the nicotine and crap out of your system ... it gives you extra energy to be strong ... and it combats the weight gain many experience while quitting. Also, drinking 64 oz. of purified water a day helps to clean out your system as well as control your weight and give you pretty skin.

You can do this girl ... DO NOT GIVE IN. I can never get my dad back and I will miss him every single day for the rest of my life. I can encourage others to kick the habit though ... and that is one of my missions from now on.

I wish you strength and God's peace.

I quit for 3 years once using the patch. I had quit prior to that cold turkey, baaaaad idea!! The patch works great!! Your cravings will be for the habit of smoking, the ritual of it, not the nicotine since you will be getting that through the patch. As you get a craving remember that it won't last forever, and they keep getting shorter and shorter and further and further apart with time. Just get through one craving at a time. I bought the patch to quit again but haven't used it yet. Try to stay clear of people who smoke for a while. Drink lots and lots of water and munch on veggies and healthy foods, or keep a toothpick in your mouth or chew gum. Go for walks, exercise, journal. It's so easy to help someone else, but so difficult to do it yourself. I applaud you. You can do this.

Is there a good support group for quitters? If so email me, anyone!!

Way to go I quit when I found out I was pregnant. I would have a drink of water for something to do when craving it. It took a couple weeks for me to get over the major cravings. The cravings never totally go away though. Whatever you do, don't smoke while you wear the patch it will make you more addicted.

Well first of all.. congradulations!!! you took the first step. Do anything to keep that urge away, read a book, crochet, eat ice cubes. Usually the first 3 days are the worst.

If the patch doesn't do it. get a script for chantix. It's like $122, but it really really works. I work in a pharmacy and everybody that I talked to said they quit in like a week. done... good luck!

It took about a month before the side effects went away.

I used the patch as well.

I quit 9 years ago and I STILL get cravings after a meal!

I was told to hold a pen or pencil between your fingers when you crave one, and to drink lots of orange juice. I have been trying to quit, but the patches didn't work for me, and neither did the gum. I quit cold turkey one time for 3 months. Heck if anyone finds a good way. please let me know. I have to quit, it is literally killing me.

i quit two months ago
after about a week, it starts to subside some...but it takes time to get all the nicotine out of your system and your body to stop craving it....i live with a smoker, so its really hard. but i had to stop. i dont want to be in a morgue before i am 40.

good luck to you....you can do it...chew gum...eclipse is real good. taste lasts a long time too.
