At every school I've worked for, the semester is fifteen weeks plus a week for finals.

The traditional semester was 18 weeks long. However, some colleges are running on modified or "shortened" semester schedules for 15 or 16 weeks.

So if you are planning a schedule, the best thing to do is to contact the college of interest and check their website for the current calendar. In my local area, the various colleges are mixed....some are on the traditional 18-week semester, others on the 16 week cycle, still others are using a 15-week semester. Others in the area use the quarter system (about 9 weeks). And to make it more confusing, all of the schools start at a new term at different times.

The key thing is to check with the specific college of interest to you.

Hope this helps. Best wishes.
