1. Not necessarily, but maybe a little naive. The guy killed up to twenty million Russians during his reign through executions, camps and other punishments.
2. I don't think so. He wanted to be an atheist, but in his final moments as he lay dying it's reported that he raised his fist and shook it at the heavens. So he probably did believe in God after all, but he might have just rebelled against that belief.

Joseph Stalin ruled his people with an Iron hand. He gave no quarters.
It's only an educated guess but, he sent about twenty (20 million) million of his own people to the Northern Gulag Archipelago in the far North, never to be seen again. So, if you want to call him fair, or if you want to say you like this treatment then, that's your opinion.

Read the books by Alexander Sholzenitnitzen, he was a citizen of Russia and spoke out against the Regime, one day he went to the store for tobacco and never came home again.
When he did, ten years later, he began to write about his ventures and smuggle them out through friends, they made world headlines. Stalin ordered his arrest, he again was sent to the "Gulag" for another ten years but, was this time given "house arrest" due to world pressure.

After many of his books on the world market about the ill treatment of Soviet citizens Alex was sent out of the country and told never to come back. He was exiled.

Stalin was one of the more evil rulers of the 20th century so not an easy man to like.
As for whether he was an atheist , this is not clear. In his early life he was studying to be a priest.

I would say yes, Stalin was bad. He was the greatest idel of Saddam Hussein, who is also bad. Both men are smart, which magnified their crimes against humanity.

Stalin was anti-religion. No believe in of any religion stopd him from doing any of his crimes. He didn't mind using religion to controle people though. Just like Saddam.

He exiled and murdered a multiple of the people that Hitler did. You don't have to be an atheist to do that. They substituted Marxism and the cult of personality for religion. It's about the same.

Your a bad person if you like Stalin anyway, not because he was an atheist, but because he was a bigger mass murderer than Hitler. He killed more of his people than the Germans did.
