Lol I recalled preparing anxiously a few years back for this at also the same time of the year and man I felt good after finishing this presentation.... on january... 2008 if i recall. Ill try to help you. If you make the IOP interesting it can be fun and you'll get your 15% of IB English over and done with and sit back and relax. First thing I would like to say. DONT INTRODUCE THE CHARACTERS unless they re relevant to your thesis. and dont introduce them for too long. ..Remember your IOP is only 10 or 15? minutes cant remember.. like Shirley.. The Main char's sister shows this.. that kind of short intro.. get it?? also DONT summarize. it ll make the presentation boring and redudant and your teacher will fail you. First of all try to make the first slide short and intteresting like a punchline or so.. for e.g have you ever wondered how pple mature. talk abt sth interesting but make it short,,, and then introduce your Thesis and BOLDEN IT : How the characters mature in the novel thruogh battles and struggle. Two relevant novels that will prove my point would be “I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings and Balzac and the Little Chinese Seamstress. Then find out quotes, evidence, and elaborate how they are relveant to your thesis and try to categorize them like individual, society and family or sth... I did Metamorphosis and it was pretty well done.. as i mentioned earlier the most important thing that you need to do is your thesis (yours i think is pretty good) AND STICK TO IT. Make sure everything you say is relevant to the thesis. For example in Metamorphosis my thesis was how the novel is symbolic on pple who had suffered negative and permanent changes to their life and then.. I categorized this into individual, family and society. The transformation of Gregor into a bug represents this negatively permanent change. For inidividual, I talked abt how the main character, Gregor experienced grief and suffering after his transformation into a bug shown through quotes and how he symbolized the individual. I then pointed out real life cases like interviews on how a guy reacted to his life after a car crash and how similiar it is to Gregor. For family I talked abt how his family reacted to him qwhen he transformed to an insect.. through quotes and likewise.. link them to real life cases. For society, I talked abt the three lodgers who came to stay in Gregor's house. They are outsiders and therefore represent society. How they reacted to Gregor. One sympathized with him, one just kept staring at him and found him interestinng. One treated him badly...and injured him or sth.. Then I talk abt real life events. Your teacher should have given you the IB Criteria list like how she'll rate your personal interpretation, personal response, relevance, creativity all that ****. Just make sure you include it. And The trick is not to print out too many words on each PPT slide and ramble on them but give a few key points and elaborate and explain AND LINK THEM TO YOUR THESIS using flashcards.and make it natural. MAKE IT interesting and entertaining. And alst of all GOOD LUCK. and Happy New Year
