it might be termites.. they look a lot like flying ants... they tend to fly about when its their swarming season and sometimes they fall and look like drunk ants, they seem disoriented.. They dont need a window or screen, they might emerge from a tiny crack in the wall, flooring, or whereever there is wood.. You might want to trap a few in a jar and find a pest control company to tell you what they are to be sure.. otherwise, if its nothing more than fruit flies, or gnats,, you just need to find the source, might be some left out food, or bananas you just bought and left out in your kitchen, those little buggers can appear and thrive for a long time...

CAN YOU SPELL.....INFESTATION.
WELL TO PUT IT DIRECT,YOU WILL SOON BE FULL OF FLEAS.WHEN YOU SEE BUGS ON YOUR CARPET,IT IS USEUALLY FOLLOWED BY FLEAS AND TICKS.I DONT KNOW HOW CLEAN YOUR HOME IS,BUT YOU SHOULD VACUM AT LEAST ONCE A WEEK,NOT ONCE A YEAR.
VACUMING SHOULD BE DONE ON A WEEKLY BASIS,NOT JUST FOR DIRT AND DUST,BUT TO KEEP FROM INSECTS AND EGGS THAT YOU BRING IN FROM OUTSIDE (ON YOUR SOLES OF YOUR SHOES) FROM HATCHING....GOOD LUCK AND BUY LOTS OF ...RAID...LOTS

Sounds like termites. Bad news if it is. Look up termites in wikipedia to see if they look like that.
