Clearly hanging a noose is not a hate crime by law. BUT hate crime applies to the Jena 6 and the crime they committed according to this statue.

Absolutely.

I'm sorry, my hanging a noose somewhere isn't a crime, IT'S FREE SPEECH!!

Beating someones brains in IS a crime however, and rightfully so.

I hope they rot in jail.

It is not a hate crime as stated in the law. However, if we are to call ourselves a civilized and compassionate society, we must bring this type of hate speech to an end. It should not be allowed. We need to put into place rules of behavior in these type matters. Both sides of this issue were wrong and punishment for each side should be according to the level of crimes committed. I also say dig up the tree, move it to a park and end the situation.

Does it matter. Those who put the nooses up were threatening any blacks that sat under the tree. The lawyers can play all the games they want with words and the law, it was a hate crime and should be punished as such.

Your right Elizabeth, hanging a noose somewhere is not a crime. However if your freaking ignorant enough to hang a noose in front of a group of black folks, then you better be ready to get your brains beat in.

Lester B:
Then go up to a group of young black men and taunt them racially, video tape it, and let me know when you post it on you tube. I want to see this! Tough guy.

Maybe it is a loving pink silk noose.

Of COURSE it is hateful.

Where were you raised?

For the record - I have consistently spoken out AGAINST the "Jena Six" because anytime six kids beat up one kid I feel it is wrong. Violence is NEVER justified.

(call me crazy).

But yes - the whole noose thing WAS in fact a hate crime by definition of law.

a noose can be called a hate crime if it is implied that they ment it in relation to the lynchings of african americans during the first half of the 1900's, in the case of the Jeana 6, the white students were making a statement that they were superior to their black peers

STL RAM: I would love to play with black boys who think they will bash my brains in. I don't play nice with others.
