can some one please explain what tire sizes mean? for example what does 130/70-17 mean? width? height? etc.
the 2007 model was 130/80-16
the new 08 model is 130/70-17
does the new model have a wider rear tire?
Also do you guys think the new 08 will be any faster?

What does 130/70-17 mean?
130= 130mm width
70= sidewall height is 70% of tire width (70% of 130mm)
17= fits 17" rim

The tire on the '08 is almost exactly the same height as the '07, actually .04 inches shorter but that doesn't really amount to much at all The '08 wheel is one inch taller but the cross section of the tire is 1/2 inch shorter. I don't know what the gear ratios are, but if everything else is the same, the '08 engine will probably turn 10-15 more rpm @ 70 mph.

Break down the tire size for you:

130= width
70= High or inches tall from the rim
16 or 17=how large the rim size is

No the 2008 will not be any faster than the current 2007.

Based on the figures you posted, the diameter of the tires on the new bike are 17" - 1" taller than the old bike. The front tire is thinner... the back tire is the same width.
