Bleach usually gets white things whiter. Maybe vinegar, too. I don't think there is a perfect answer.

Soak and bleach it. But you can't do that always since it will ruin the material as time goes by. And because your hand towels are old, it will really become stain dirty looking because of its age. Better buy new ones.

Using the SAME white towels for years = recycle them.

After about 3-4 months I use them as cleaning towels & I buy new ones.

If they are a good quality of cotton, you can bleach them. Also, try changing to a different laundry soap/detergent than you regularly use. Some stains like blood may need peroxide to lift out.

If they are of polyester mixed material, however, bleach will only make them yellow and look nastier.

A remedy my grandmother showed me on keeping whites bright after years of use is adding white vinegar to ur load of whites along with the bleach. It has been used in our family for over 30 yrs and has worked great!!! Hope this works for u.

A few years? Buy some new ones, towels don't cost that much.

Before you throw them in the washer, soak them overnight in a bucket of water mixed with detergent and small amount of bleach.
